General Job Description:
Lancaster County, South Carolina is one of the fastest growing counties in South Carolina and the Charlotte, NC Metropolitan Area. The County is currently undergoing a transformative process through the ongoing development of a new Comprehensive Plan and Unified
Development Ordinance (UDO), which the Deputy Director will have an oversight role in. The Planning and Zoning Department is seeking a Deputy Director who is adept at working in a dynamic environment that includes both urban and rural planning elements. Working in the Planning and Zoning Department is a collaborative process that requires camaraderie with teammates. Lancaster County is willing to offer a very competitive salary in order to hire the most qualified candidates.

Minimum Education and Training:
Typical qualifications for the Deputy Planning Director may include, but are not limited to the following.
 Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, or related field
 Minimum eight-years of experience as a planner including prior supervisory experience
 Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
 AICP certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment
 Thorough understanding of the principals and practices of current, long range, and transportation planning
 Collaborative mindset and conflict resolution skills
 Ability to form effective relationships with internal and external customers
 Considerable experience in employee supervision and mentoring
 Effective communication skills: oral, written, and public presentations
 Considerable experience in problem-solving through critical analysis
