Director of Planning Services – City of Grapevine, Texas

Grapevine, Texas, with a population of over 54,000 residents and covering 35 square miles, is located in Northeast Tarrant County and is home to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Ideally situated along Interstate Highway 635, and State Highways 114, and 121, Grapevine sits at the heart of the DFW metropolitan area, 21 miles northwest of Dallas, and 19 miles northeast of Fort Worth.

The City of Grapevine operates under a Council-Manager form of government.  The City Council is comprised of a Mayor and six City Council Members. The Director of Planning Services reports directly to the Assistant City Manager.  The successful candidate for the City of Grapevine’s Director of Planning Services must be a patient collaborator who can balance citizens’ desires and concerns with City and historic preservation ordinances.  The Director of Planning Services is a critical liaison of the City who must possess the capability of working easily and collaboratively with a highly engaged City Council as well as the Planning and Zoning Commission.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in architecture, city or urban planning, public administration, or a related field is required. The selected candidate must have at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning, zoning, and urban development with at least three years of supervisory experience. A master’s degree is preferred and AICP designation is a plus.
