Description
The Town of Hilton Head Island is currently seeking a Community Development Director to lead all operations of the Community Development Department to include development and building permitting, growth management, natural resources protection, inspections, and implementation of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, Land Management Ordinance, and all building codes.
The Community Development Director supervises a staff of 30 people in four divisions: comprehensive planning, building services, community development services, and design review & zoning. The Director develops policies and procedures to ensure effective operations of the department. The Director also establishes and maintains positive working relationships with Town employees, community members, elected officials, and other stakeholders to effectively meet the needs of the community.
The successful candidate will be a solutions-oriented leader who takes a collaborative, team approach in directing the department and in working with other Town leaders. In addition, this person will value customer service and a department that is accessible to the community and to other employees. Engaging the community in meaningful ways will be important to the new Director, and this person will be willing to seek advice, input, and situational context from key community leaders when appropriate.
