Zoning Planner I

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, ensures all types of applications coming into the County’s Department of Zoning Administration are complete and accurate. Must be able to read plans and planning-related documents, ownership documents, preliminary plans, final plats, and have an innate curiosity to dig for information and ask pertinent questions. Must be able to provide superior customer service, including specific direction for mission submittal elements, and be able to prioritize and handle multiple active projects at once. Must participate in various meetings and committees, such as County Council, Planning and Development, Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, community and neighborhood organization meetings, etc.; prepares staff reports and makes presentations; answers related questions and provides information as necessary; and takes and distributes meeting minutes and notes as needed. Ability to interpret information quickly and accurately is important. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, community planning, or related field required; this classification is considered an entry-level professional position; however, previous work experience is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
