Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments (WRCOG) is seeking a Planner to support the Transportation and Local Planning Programs of WRCOG. This position will assist with local planning and transportation projects throughout the region and provide support to all of the department’s programs by developing plans and reports (growth management, land use, economic development, transportation, water quality, air quality, or other plans), collecting and analyzing data, and writing and administering proposals and grant applications. The position will also provide professional planning assistance to local governments on varied planning projects and serve as contracted planning staff for local governments in the region, as needed, providing assistance to planning commissions, boards and citizen advisory groups in the preparation and implementation of plans and programs, and draft comprehensive plans, zoning regulations, ordinances/codes, hazard mitigation plans and other planning studies. The selected candidate will be required to interpret and apply applicable federal, state, county and local codes, ordinances and regulations. GIS experience is a plus.
Desired Education/Experience-Pay Grades
Entry Level Pay Grade ($43,100-$61,000)
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, architecture, political science, public policy, or related area of study in addition to one year of work experience; or Master’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration or related field.
- AICP Candidate preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license.
Associate Level Pay Grade ($55,000-$78,000)
- Master’s Degree in Planning or Public Administration with emphasis in transportation or urban planning with three years’ experience in the planning profession; or a bachelor’s degree and five years of professional planning experience.
- Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred.
- Other credentials, such as PE (Professional Engineer), CEP (Certified Environmental Professional) or CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager), desirable.
- Valid state driver’s license.
Senior Level Pay Grade ($67,000-$96,000)
- Master’s Degree in Planning with emphasis in transportation or urban planning with 5 or more years of relevant work experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field with 7 or more years of relevant work experience;
- Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Additional credentials, such as PE (Professional Engineer), CEP (Certified Environmental Professional) or CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager), desirable.
- Valid state driver’s license.
