Job Description
The Code Enforcement Supervisor oversees other Code Enforcement Officers who inspect substandard and dangerous houses and premises to enforce City codes and ordinances. This position receives immediate supervision from and reports to the Community Development Director.
Responsibilities
- Responds to citizen complaints regarding code violations, exercises appropriate judgment in prioritizing calls, investigates and resolves problems, and provides information to the public regarding regulations.
- Coordinates inspections and dispositions of cases with public works, building, planning, parks and recreation, city attorney, fire, police, health officials, and other agencies.
- Issues municipal summonses for non-compliance of City code.
- Recommends condemnation of unsafe structures to the supervisor. Coordinates the demolition of substandard housing in the City.
- Works closely with homeowners, businesses and community groups to enhance and preserve the quality of neighborhoods by providing code enforcement information.
- Coordinates assistance for hardship cases by providing application materials and facilitating assistance
- Assists supervisor in developing effective public education strategies concerning the codes and ordinances; assists in carrying out these strategies.
- Utilizes various types of equipment and machinery such as motor vehicle, calculator, camera, computer, and various office supplies.
Qualifications
- Vocational/technical school training and/or two years’ experience in electrical, plumbing, construction or related field and at least 2 years of supervisory experience. Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Must possess a South Carolina driver’s license. Must be certified as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector.
