Duties and Responsibilities:
Lancaster County, South Carolina is one of the fastest growing counties in South Carolina. The County borders Charlotte, North Carolina to the north, and is located in the Catawba Regional COG area of service. The County is seeking amotivated Planning Director who is adept at working in a dynamic environment, and experienced in reviewing and revising Comprehensive Plans and Unified Development Ordinances. The Planning Director must also have prior experience working for a growing community and possess extensive knowledge of zoning and subdivision administration and general land development practices. Projects include both urban and rural planning in Lancaster County, and require coordination and communication with other county departments and outside agencies. The Planning Director is responsible for supervising the department and ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of all planning services to the County and municipalities, including rendering approval or denial on all cases presented to the County Planning Commission. Responsibilities include ensuring technical reviews of development plans, in addition to other current planning activities including, but not limited to, preparation of staff reports, assisting with updating the comprehensive plan and improving zoning and development regulations. This position will also work with various boards, commissions, and community groups as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualified candidates should possess a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, or related field, such as Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Management or Urban Design with six or more years of experience as a Planner, three years of which have been at a supervisory level; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. AICP Certification is preferred.
