Position: Planning & Community Development Director

Salary Range: $67,760.85 – $98,000 and is negotiable based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Job Description: Salisbury, North Carolina with a diverse population of 33,849 residents, is strategically located an hour North of Charlotte and less than two hours from the three cities making up the Research Triangle of Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh. The City of Salisbury invites résumés and applications for the position of Planning & Community Development Director.

The Planning & Community Development Director will provide general oversight and direction to the City’s daily planning, housing and community development operations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant City Manager. A bachelor’s degree with coursework in municipal planning, geography, urban design, public administration or a related field is required while a master’s degree is preferred. Considerable experience in municipal planning, community and housing development or the equivalent combination of education and experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience overseeing a planning department, will be well versed in short and long term planning with an emphasis on innovative housing initiatives along with experience with HUD, CDBG and HOME funds. A certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is required within the first six months of employment.
