General Job Description:
The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments (WRCOG) is seeking a Rural Planner for its Transportation and Local Planning Department to support the organization’s Rural Transportation Program and local planning contracts for service. This position will assist with managing WRCOG’s Rural Transportation Program, through SC DOT, and assist with long range transportation planning.  In addition, the position will also provide professional planning assistance to local governments in the rural areas of WRCOG’s service area and serve as their contracted planning staff, as needed, providing assistance to local planning commissions, boards and citizen advisory groups in the preparation and implementation of community plans, planning studies, zoning regulations, ordinances/codes, and grant projects. Such work will require the collection and analysis of data to inform growth management, land use tools, economic development, transportation plans and projects, water or air quality protection or other local initiatives. The selected candidate will be required to interpret and apply applicable federal, state, county and local codes, ordinances and regulations.

Minimum Education and Training:
Entry level: Bachelors degree; Associate and Senior level: Masters Degree
Entry level: 0-3 years of experience; Associate level: 3-5 years experience; Senior level: 7+ years of experience
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: AICP (required for Senior Level)
