Position: Planner, Berkeley County

Salary Range: $44,600.92 – $51,291.24 (Grade 120)

Job Summary: Perform a variety of professional and technical duties related to current land use development and/or zoning compliance and enforcement. Review the issuance of building and zoning permits, proposed plats, site plans, rezoning and variance requests among other land use related issues to ensure compliance with all applicable county, state and/or federal regulations. Assist in ensuring compliance and assists with the updating of the County’s comprehensive plan and the zoning and subdivision ordinances. Coordinate the scheduling of and ensures that preparations are made for the County’s Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission and County Council meetings/hearings. Make recommendations to the County Planning Commission and County Council Committees as necessary. Work closely with the County’s Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Building and Codes, and Permitting Offices/Departments in the development of maps, other documents and processes. Collect data and other statistics regarding planning and zoning issues. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Other Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years related experience required. Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning, Public Administration or closing related field preferred. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.
