Long Range Planner II (Urban Design)

Under direction from the Long Range Planning Manager, Long Range Planner II employees will be project managers for neighborhood, community, area plans, corridor plans; will develop landscape, streetscape, and urban design proposals; and will develop goals/objectives for projects, along with implementation strategies, and will write/design the final product. This position may also assist Zoning Administration with the review of site plans, concept plans, and final development plans for Planned Developments and other review district applications for compliance with county regulations and established principles of urban design. As a Long Range Planner II, the employee is expected to conduct themselves in a manner that engenders trust from their manager, the department, and elected/appointed officials. Long Range Planner II employees are expected to see the consequences of actions within the department and on other departments and agencies and the greater community and bring forward solutions to a wide variety of planning-related issues. They are expected to perform duties relatively unsupervised, with the manager having a high-level of confidence in their judgement and accuracy. The employee will occasionally lead staff work projects and may assist with the administration and supervision of other employees and interns.
Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Geography, Real Estate Development, or related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in urban or regional planning; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Special License(s) or Certification(s) Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
