Salary Range: $51,952.39 – $85,721.45 Annually

General Job Description:
Under general supervision, ensures all types of applications coming into the County’s Department of Zoning Administration are complete and accurate. Must be able to read plans and planning-related documents, ownership documents, preliminary plans, final plats, and have an innate curiosity to dig for information and ask pertinent questions. Must be able to provide superior customer service, including specific direction for missing submittal elements, and be able to prioritize and handle multiple active projects at once. Ability to interpret information quickly and accurately is important. Composes staff reports and recommendations on routine zoning requests, cases, and appeals; reviews case for accuracy and corrects discrepancies; conducts research regarding background of property, areas of concern of conflict, etc.; evaluates zoning requests to ensure compliance with Comprehensive/Area Plans, regulations, and requirements; identifies deficiencies and recommends solutions; approves or denies requests; provides information regarding rules and regulations to mitigate against future issues/concerns; ensures applications meet legal posting requirements in newspaper, on site, and on department website; and develops and prepares staff reposts and PowerPoints for presentation at public hearings/meetings and community meetings. Participates in various meeting and committees, such as County Council, Planning and Development, Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, community and neighborhood organization meetings, etc.; prepares staff reports and makes presentations; answers related questions and provides information as necessary; and takes and distributes meeting minutes and notes as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Community Planning, or related field required; this classification is considered an entry-level professional position, however previous work experience is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
