General Job Description
ACOG is seeking a Community and Regional Planner to work with local communities on matters related to land use planning primarily through zoning and subdivision regulations and the development of short and long-range plans within the six-county South Carolina Appalachian Region. Other responsibilities include assisting communities in a wide variety of activities including, but not limited to, the development of plans for growth management, economic development, housing, transportation, and water quality. Qualified applicants must possess thorough knowledge of urban planning and development and local government policies and procedures. Attending public meetings, including night meetings, is required for this position.

Minimum Requirements:
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, landscape architecture, or a closely related field. A master’s degree in planning or related field is preferred. Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is also preferred. Two (2) years of experience in local government, regional, or state planning desired; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary skills and abilities. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, GIS applications, database management and other applicable software programs is needed.
